An introduction to critical thinking by Steven Schafersman:

Reading this article made me think about my own schooling. Not being taught HOW to think instead of WHAT to think was never even a question. Teachers always just told us what to believe and somehow we all did. In school systems in todays world, there is no thought about teaching kids the right ways to think, its only what to think. If kids were able to learn how to think and the proper ways to do so, maybe the next generations would be able to help this world out a bit more. It was sad to read that U.S. Ranks the lowest in math and science, and aren't those the two subjects that are taking over the world with new medicine and technology. If we are unable to think for ourselves, how on earth do we plan to help ourselves.
Why were we never taught how to think? Why do we have to believe that trees are really called trees? If we are being told what to think, aren't we all just naive then. We haven't been able to make a decision for ourselves then. When ever a problem comes up, we simply ask someone else what to do instead of actually thinking for ourselves. If we started to think for ourselves more often, maybe we would actually get some right answers around here. We always rely on someone or something else to tell us the correct answer and who ever said that those answers are right. Learning how to properly get to a right conclusion is something that if we don't start to learn, then this world is in for a rude awakening.
